Year 1L 2020
In Year 1L we have had such a busy week! We were kindly given a Christmas tree and decorations for our classroom, so enjoyed writing thank you letters to the people who donated them.
We have been learning about addition and subtraction in maths and learnt how to apply what we know about a number sentence, to make other number sentences (fact families). We also enjoyed Christmas jumper day on Friday and had fun performing the Christmas song we have been learning "Away in a Manger".
Some of us have been developing our fine motor skills by using real nuts and bolts to practice twisting them. This took lots of concentration and determination.
We have been really busy this week in Year 1L. We have been changing the story in Stanley Stick in English. We thought of lots of different things Stanley's stick could be, such as a rocket or a fishing rod!
In maths, we have been learning about ordering numbers. In Science, we have been investigating materials and had to decide on an appropriate material to make a coat that would be suitable for the arctic!
In Project, we ended our unit by showcasing what we have learnt in How are you? in the videos shown below and we are looking forward to starting our new project next week… Stay tuned!
Autumn 2 - Week 3
Last week we learnt about the festival of Diwali. We learnt about why Hindu people celebrate this.
It is known as the festival of light. It is the Hindu New Year and lasts 5 days. We learnt about how families celebrate and the food and traditions they enjoy to mark this special time. Miss Molloy’s friend took some photos of her family celebrating this weekend to show us.
We tried some delicious food such as samosas, pakoras and rice and enjoyed colouring some Rangoli pictures.

Autumn 1 - Week 3
We have had another wonderful week in 1L.
In our third week back, we have been learning about one more/one less in Maths. We have been continuing to learn about Bumble Bear in English and have been thinking about how different exercises help our bodies to stay fit. We have been also embedding the independent skills we have learnt in previous weeks, in the areas in our classroom.
We have had lots of fun and learnt lots.
Autumn 1 - Week 5
In Year 1L we have been doing so much learning we have not had a chance to upload photos!

In Project, we have been learning about common illnesses and how we can prevent them spreading, and how to look after ourselves if we do get poorly.
We have continued to enjoy learning in our continuous provision, especially our new natural resources where we have had the freedom to decide for ourselves how to use the area. Some of us built with the natural objects and some of us even made musical instruments out of them!!!
We are looking forward to some more learning and fun over the next few weeks!
